Over Branch of Fourmile Creek
The existing NE 54th Street bridge was a 24’ x 26’ precast concrete panel bridge with high timber abutments. The bridge was both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete and did not provide for a desired dedicated bike trail and sidewalk in a rapidly developing area of Ankeny. The project consisted of a 70’-0 x 32’-0 continuous concrete slab (CCS) bridge with a 10’-0 bike trail and 5’-0 sidewalk, and approximately 550 lineal feet of approach pavement reconstruction.
The approach roadway improvements converted this section of NE 54th Street from a rural section to an urban section with storm sewer, intakes, curb and gutter, and PCC sidewalk and trail. CB&A assisted the City in all phases of the project including pursuit of bridge replacement funding, design and plan preparation, and full-service construction observation and administration.
